Montgomery County Code - Chapter 10B: Mandatory Periodic Director Training
In 2016, Montgomery County adopted a law requiring all Association Directors to take a free class on managing a Community Association.
The director must take the class within 90 days of being elected or re-elected (or appointed or re-appointed) to the Board of Directors. Members of associations are not required to take the class, but the County strongly encourages them to do so.
The Montgomery County Commission on Common Ownership Communities (CCOC) director training certificates are valid for three (3) years from completion. If a member takes the class and is later elected, re-elected, appointed, or re-appointed to the Board, the member is required to retake the director training class if the 3-year expiration date of the training certificate has expired. A director who does not comply with the law is potentially subject to a fine of $500.
The class is available online through the CCOC website and takes approximately 3 – 3.5 hours to complete. In addition, live (via Zoom video conferencing) and in-person training classes are available.
