Montgomery County Code - Chapter 10B: Mandatory Periodic Director Training

In 2016, Montgomery County adopted a law requiring all Association Directors to take a free class on managing a Community Association.

The director must take the class within 90 days of being elected or re-elected (or appointed or reappointed) to the Board of Directors. Association members are not required to take the class, but the County strongly encourages them to do so.

The Montgomery County Commission on Common Ownership Communities (CCOC) director training certificates are valid for three (3) years from the date of completion. If a member takes the class and is later elected, re-elected, appointed, or reappointed to the Board, the member must retake the director training class if the 3-year expiration date of the training certificate has passed. A director who does not comply with the law may be subject to a $500 fine.

The class is available online through the CCOC website and takes approximately 3 – 3.5 hours to complete. In addition, live training classes (via Zoom) and in-person classes are available.
