There were recent reports of unlawful activity occurring in the Waterford Place community.
  •  Attempted home invasion (Thankfully, everyone is ok.)
  • Tampering with vehicles parked in the parking lot on Waters Row Terrace (An individual was observed walking through the parking lot trying to open car doors around 1:30 a.m.)
Here is some advice to keep your home safe:
  • Know the people within your neighborhood.
  • Keep your vacation dates off of social media.
  • Make use of timers.
  • Lock all doors and windows.
  • Utilize blinds and curtains.
  • Keep a light on during the evening when you are not home.
  • Install a security device and/or motion sensor lights outside your home.
  • Do not keep garage door openers in a vehicle parked outside.
  • If you hear something, do not assume it is your neighbor. Take a look.
  • Start a Neighborhood Watch. Neighborhood safety is a team effort.
Here is advice to help keep your vehicles safe:
  • Lock your vehicle. This may seem like simple common sense, but really… close all windows and lock all doors. Make sure you hear a locking noise, watch for lights flashing or mirrors folding, or just pull the door handle.
  • Activate any theft deterrent device you may have.
  • Park wisely.  Carefully consider where you park your vehicle.
  • Don’t leave valuables in the vehicle.  Don’t leave valuables on display in your vehicle to tempt opportunist thieves.
  • If you have a garage, use it. Lock both the vehicle and the garage.
  • Remove the ignition keys/key fobs from the vehicle. Do not leave the vehicle unattended without locking the ignition and removing the key. A significant number of automobiles are stolen because drivers fail to remove the ignition keys.
Do not hesitate to call the non-emergency police at 240-773-6200 (MCPD 5th District in Germantown) or 301-279-8000 if you see unusual activity in our neighborhood. Ask for a patrol car to come by and check it out.  If there is an emergency call 9-1-1.
